Step-by-Step: How to Obtain a Moroccan Passport

Step 1 — Purchase the electronic stamp
Go to the official tax portal and select the “Passport Stamp” option, then choose the quantity. The amount due is 500 MAD. Payment can be made by bank card or through approved intermediaries. Once payment is complete, you will receive a 16-digit code via SMS or email.

Step 2 — Fill out the application form online
After purchasing the stamp, go to the official Ministry of Interior website to fill out the passport application form. During this process, you will enter the 16-digit code along with your personal details. Note that some information must be entered in both Arabic and French. Once completed, print the form on A4 paper and sign it.

Step 3 — Gather your documents
Collect all the documents listed above. Make sure your photos meet the official specifications and that all documents are recent and valid.

Step 4 — Submit your file
The biometric passport application file must be submitted at the administrative annex or district office (caïdat) corresponding to your place of residence, in exchange for a deposit slip that will be required when collecting the passport.

Step 5 — Track your application
You can track the progress of your application online through the official portal by entering your personal details or the file number shown on your deposit slip.

Step 6 — Collect your passport
You will receive an SMS or email notification when your passport has been issued. The biometric passport must be collected in person by the holder, upon presentation of the deposit slip and a valid identity document. Important: biometric passports that have not been collected within two months of their issue date will be cancelled.

Passport Validity

The Moroccan biometric passport is valid for 5 years for adults (over 18), and 3 years for minors (under 18). It is recommended to renew at least 6 months before the expiry date, as many countries require a minimum of 6 months remaining validity at the time of entry.

Lost or Stolen Passport — What to Do

  1. File a report at the nearest police station or Royal Gendarmerie to obtain a loss or theft declaration certificate, mentioning the passport number
  2. If the passport was lost or stolen abroad, contact the relevant security authorities or, if not possible, the nearest Moroccan embassy or consulate
  3. Submit a new passport application file along with the loss or theft declaration certificate

  • Make sure all documents are complete and up to date before heading to the administrative office — this avoids unnecessary return trips
  • Bring extra copies of all documents in case of additional requests
  • Keep a digital copy of your application form in your email as a precaution
  • Track your file regularly through the official Ministry of Interior website
