Germany Dual Vocational Training Programme 2026-2027 – Bakery, Pastry and Sales

The vocational training in Germany will last for three years and is scheduled to start in September 2027. Participants will receive both theoretical and practical training, allowing them to gain professional qualifications and valuable work experience in Germany.

The programme targets three main professions in the bakery and food service sector:

1. Available Vocational Training Professions

Baker (Boulanger/ère): Bakers are responsible for preparing, kneading, and baking different types of bread and pastries. Their duties also include monitoring fermentation and baking processes and decorating various bakery products.
Bakery Sales Assistant (Vendeur/euse en boulangerie): Sales assistants are responsible for arranging and decorating product displays, welcoming customers, providing advice, handling sales, and preparing snacks and hot beverages in cafés attached to bakeries.
Pastry Chef (Pâtissier/ère): Pastry chefs prepare and produce traditional and modern pastries, chocolate products, and various confectionery items. They also decorate cakes and tarts and work with specialised pastry and decorating equipment.

2. Eligibility Requirements

Candidates wishing to apply for the THAMM Plus vocational training programme in Germany must meet the following requirements:

The applicant must be registered with the National Agency for the Promotion of Employment and Skills (ANAPEC) and be actively seeking employment.
The applicant must have at least a Baccalaureate/high school diploma, Baccalaureate-level education, or a technical diploma.
Professional experience or training: Candidates must have at least 6 months of professional experience in the relevant field through employment or certified training, or have completed recognised training in bakery, pastry, chocolate, or confectionery.
The applicant must be between 18 and 25 years old as of December 31, 2026.
The applicant must have proof of a minimum A2 level of German at the time of application.
Strong motivation and a genuine willingness to work in the bakery and pastry sector in Germany and integrate into the German professional environment.
Good physical fitness and the ability to work under pressure, operate cooking and bakery equipment, and remain standing for extended periods.
Willingness to accept the working conditions of the profession, including night shifts and non-standard working hours.

3. Required Application Documents

Candidates must prepare an application file containing the following documents:

A copy of the national identity card or passport.
A detailed and carefully prepared CV in German (Lebenslauf).

Copies of employment certificates or internship certificates proving the required professional experience.

4. Free Support and Benefits

Successful candidates will receive comprehensive and free support funded by the THAMM Plus project of the German Agency for International Cooperation (GIZ).

Intensive German language training to reach B1 level, including coverage of the B1 examination fees.
Training courses focused on soft skills and life skills.
Pre-departure support and guidance for cultural and professional integration in Germany.
Orientation sessions and assistance with preparing application documents, visa procedures, and employment or training contracts with German companies.

Readiness requirement: Selected candidates must be fully available to attend intensive, full-time language and cultural training starting in November 2026.
