The European Youth Portal, under the European Solidarity Corps (ESC), has announced the opening of applications for a fully funded long-term individual volunteering opportunity in Cologne (Köln), Germany. The project is hosted and coordinated by the role-playing games organization Dragon Legion e. V. for the 2026 program.

The project, titled “Building an International Youth Community through Games”, aims to bring together young volunteers from around the world to build inclusive youth communities while developing language, communication, and social skills through Role-Playing Games (RPGs).

1. Volunteer Tasks and Responsibilities

Selected volunteers will carry out the following activities at the organization’s headquarters in Cologne:

  • Design and develop educational Role-Playing Game (RPG) concepts that engage young people and enhance their skills.
  • Organize interactive educational and recreational events.
  • Collaborate with local schools to support language learning and social learning programs for children of different age groups.
  • Contribute to the design and production of the organization’s magazine while documenting project activities.
  • Manage the organization’s social media platforms and create engaging YouTube video content.

2. Funding and Benefits

The project is fully funded by the European Union and offers the following benefits:

  • Accommodation: Volunteers will live together in a fully equipped shared apartment in Cologne. Each volunteer will have a private bedroom while sharing the kitchen and common facilities.
  • Food Allowance: A monthly food allowance will be provided to cover daily meal expenses.
  • Local Transportation: Volunteers will receive a free public transportation pass valid for all local buses and trains in Cologne, with access to bicycle rental options.
  • International Travel: Round-trip travel costs are covered according to the European Solidarity Corps distance and travel reimbursement rules.
  • Pocket Money: Volunteers will receive a monthly personal allowance throughout the duration of the project.

Selection Preference: Priority will be given to applicants who are willing to stay for the entire duration of the project (one full year).

3. Eligibility Requirements

  • English is the working language of the organization. Knowledge of basic German is considered an advantage.
  • Ability to work effectively in multicultural international teams.
  • Creative, responsible, and motivated individuals who are eager to contribute new ideas to youth work and digital content creation.
  • Previous Experience: No prior professional experience is required. Selection is based primarily on motivation, enthusiasm, and commitment.

4. Project Information

  • Volunteering Duration: 52 weeks (one year), from 01/11/2025 to 31/10/2027.
  • Location: Cologne (Köln), Germany.
  • Activity Address: Friedrich-Karl-Str. 200, Köln, Germany.
  • Volunteering Type: Long-term Individual Volunteering.
  • Eligible Countries: Morocco, Algeria, Tunisia, Egypt, Libya, Palestine, Jordan, Lebanon, Syria, Turkey, as well as EU Member States and other countries participating in the European Solidarity Corps programme.
